Portfolio
B2B editor
Having risen through the ranks of an International publishing house from editorial assistant to an editor I have experience of working on publications from start to finish. I can research and write news and features, commission writers, design pages in InDesign, sub edit copy, write headlines, captions and standfirsts, and manipulate images in Photoshop. I know how to generate flat plans, and am good at liaising with advertising, production and circulation departments. I also ensure any publications are proofread to the highest standard and delivered to strict deadlines.
Freelance sub editor, proofreader
Having a natural talent as a sub editor I worked as a freelancer for a number of agencies in London. I can check copy for ethical and legal implications, rewrite copy to fit, iron out any grammatical errors and spot typos in an instant. I can rewrite copy to retain the tone and essence of the story and ensure there are no orphans or widows. I have experience of working on many different types of projects such as product catalogues, Company Reports, advertisements and consumer magazines. I was often called back to companies for repeat business.
Magazine & directory publisher
With in eye for innovation and being able to spot gaps in the market I have experience of publishing consumer magazines and directories myself. I can do all the necessary market research, test demand and take a publication from an idea into a viable publication. I can generate content and advertisements, design layouts and organise production, circulation and distribution.
Content writer
As well as writing news and feature articles for B2B and consumer magazines I have experience as a freelance content writer for newsletter and local papers on a regular basis. I can write copy, that is sometimes technical, and make it readable to a wide audience. I can rewrite and edit copy to fit quickly in an allotted space and meet tight deadlines. I can tailor my writing style to meet the needs of specific target audiences whether it be in print or online.
Courses - NCTJ Production Journalism, Digital Accelerator Diploma, Excel 2016
To update my skills as sub editor I studied the NCTJ Production Journalism course and qualified with a grade A. I know the dynamics of working in a busy broadsheet subbing environment creating imaginative headlines and straplines, editing copy to fit and optimising photos. I went on the Digital Accelerator Diploma to update my publishing technology skills and create content and images in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. I also learnt about SEO, blog and website creation in WordPress. In order to improve my data management skills I went on the Advanced Excel 2016 course analysing data using techniques such as formulas, conditional formatting, VLOOKUP, Pivot tables and charts, IF statements, and cell referencing.
Property developer
Having bought and renovated a succession of my own homes I went on to buy a run down flat for the rental market. Many years later I have a small portfolio and have project managed them myself, working with contractors such as plumbers, electricians, carpenters, handymen, glaziers and carpet fitters to bring the flats up to a high standard. I manage the tenants myself liaising with estate agents, solicitors, and freeholders.
Administrator
I have a great deal of experience in administration having worked as a temporary worker on contracts ranging from one day to several months. The clients I work with include high end businesses, charities, local government, and voluntary groups.
