B2B Editor
Food ingredients & analysis
Having worked as an editorial assistant, then assistant editor on various trade journals within Turret Rai I was promoted to editor of Food Ingredients & Analysis. The International bi-monthly journal and sister directories were aimed at food manufacturing executives, technologists, product developers and marketing departments. I had to ensure even the most technical articles were written to appeal to all audiences. I travelled all over the world meeting and interviewing clients, reporting on conferences and exhibitions. I commissioned and wrote news and features and designed pages in QuarkXpress writing headlines, standfirsts, captions and manipulating photos. I was responsible for copy flow across all departments and making sure we met strict deadlines and kept within our budget.
ingredients, health & nutrition
As a food scientist and seeing new and exciting developments in the field of nutraceutical or functional foods I recognised that there was a niche in the market for a sister publication to Food Ingredients. It was an emerging market and I had to ensure that I commissioned top scientific writers who could also write for an audience that sometimes had very little knowledge of the subject. I recruited an Editorial Advisory Board of top industry professionals and travelled all over the world to conferences and exhibitions to find out about the latest developments. I was responsible for the whole publication from start to finish, creating flatplans, laying out pages, writing, keeping to strict deadlines and within budget with the help of an editorial assistant. The journal was an immediate International success.
A few years after its launch I was part of a team helping to organise a conference and exhibition in Singapore. As well as helping co ordinate the exhibition I commissioned speakers for the conference, organised the programme of events, managed delegate bookings and hired facilities.
