Katie Canham Wride
about me
I’m an experienced editor, journalist, administrator and events professional with a career spanning publishing, communications, property, local organisations and hospitality.
I began my career in my early 20s as an editorial assistant at a B2B publishing house, progressing over eight years to become editor of two international Food & Nutrition magazines. During that time, I interviewed senior industry leaders, commissioned and edited articles, managed contributors and travelled extensively to conferences and exhibitions around the world.
I subsequently became a freelance journalist and publisher, producing my own magazines and directories while developing a wide range of skills across writing, editing, research, project management and business administration.
A move to Sussex brought a new chapter. Alongside raising a family, I became actively involved in my local community, serving on the Parish Council and as a school governor, and volunteering with the PTA and local groups. I also developed a successful property portfolio, buying, renovating and letting flats across East and West Sussex. This gave me valuable hands-on experience in project management, budgeting, problem-solving, negotiation and working with a wide range of people.
After downsizing and moving to Brighton, I returned to employment, taking on temporary administrative roles across a variety of organisations, including Brighton & Hove City Council and BHT. I then moved into hospitality and events, working at major festivals and events including Latitude, Glastonbury and Boardmasters — work I continue to undertake on an ad hoc basis.
Outside work, I volunteer at a local community garden and am passionate about sport and staying active. Walking football is my greatest sporting passion: I play for two women’s teams in Sussex and have represented England/Celtic Nations in international fixtures, earning 11 caps. I also play in touch rugby, pickleball and softball teams, compete in 5K and 10K races, and enjoy longboard surfing, triathlon, sailing and spending far too much time at the gym!
I’m curious, practical, sociable and happiest when I’m learning something new, getting stuck into a project or working as part of a team.
I hope you enjoy exploring my portfolio.
